Living in a House of Cards

Okay this is it, the moment we've all been waiting for... Okay, maybe not all you guys, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. But I certainly can tell you that there were three exhausted students unbelievable grateful to see the successful completion of this project, and so when we got the marks back, we were even more grateful.

I myself was very proud of this piece - lighting, set up, audio - we were pleased with the way we accomplished everything - but I think we were even more impressed when we got it done in 3 days.

A million thanks to Hugh Livingstone, for agreeing to dedicated so many hours to us, and to Shane King - who made us want to cry with relief when we showed up at his place of work with a camera, completely unannounced, and he said "yeah, sure I'll let you film here and do an interview." Well, more like we begged, and he shrugged in complacent agreement, but we are eternally grateful.

Alicia, Cam - I LOVE YOU GUYS. lol

ROOMMATES - Sitcom Character Sketch

Okay, so for my self directed video project, I want to do a pilot for a sitcom. I am in the process of gathering together a team of writers and am in the first few steps of organizing the casting call.
The show's tentative title is 'Roommates', and will be done in the basic day to day life style, similar to FRIENDS.

This is the character sketch for the leads of the show:

Notes
  • Names and descriptions of characters subject to change during production and pre-production process
  • Other small parts available but will be undefined until script is finalized. You may inform us if you are interested in being cast in these parts when you audition
  • If you do not match the physical description of the character you wish to audition for, please audition anyway - you may still be the best suited for the part

Final Photo Assignments

Portrait and Environment Shot
For this assignment we had to shoot a portrait of someone that clearly depicted their working/job environment

Jim Ryan
This was our final assignment as well as a photo Scholarship called the Jim Ryan. It is for a "News Worthy" photo contest. I also had a shot of a car crash, but it just wasn't as good of a shot, and there wasn't anything super captivating about it, so I decided to go with this one instead. There's no way I'm going to win or anything, but I like the shot a lot :)

(EDIT: Was reading back through old blogs, and realized this was up there, but I forgot to update about the contest results. Turns out, I came 2nd :) Yay!)

Movie Review: CARRIERS

Spielberg in Stilletos
Dvd reviews by Maelina de Grasse

End of the World Blah Blah Blah
“Carriers”

Directors: Alex and David Pastor
Starring: Lour Taylor Pucci, Chris Pine, Piper Perabo, Emily VanCamp
Runtime: 84 minutes

For your own sake, please read these next few lines and save yourself 84 minutes of actually watching Carriers.

An unstoppable virus pandemic takes over the world. Four dim witted, irritating college kids try to outrun it and epically fail due to their overwhelming stupidity. Everyone gets infected and turns against one another. The End.

Okay, so not everyone dies at the end of the flic, but they may as well have. They make so many stupid decisions that it brings to question whether or not they really should be the ones to survive and repopulate society.

Let's review stupid decision number one: anger the guy who is stranded on the highway with a sick little girl, no gas in the car, and a gun in his hand, by refusing to help him. Why is this stupid? Because the angry man gets a few lucky shots into the radiator and their car breaks down 30 minutes later. Karma’s a bitch.

So, with civilization miles away in either direction and an undamaged vehicle not too far behind them, the kids are forced to bring gas from their own car back to the stranger. Which leads us to stupid decision number two: getting into the same car that’s had a virus carrier in it for God knows how long, and thinking some plastic wrap and duct tape between you and the infected is going to serve as sufficient protection. Please.

Some could argue that these incidents are all circumstantial and the protagonists didn’t have any other options. But please stay tuned for stupid decision number three. One of the girls is left alone in the car with the sick kid in the back and when the poor little girl starts coughing, this brilliant chick thinks its a good idea to tear down the lame ass barrier, and fling herself back there. To accomplish what, exactly? The little girl is dying of a toxic virus, what could she possibly do for her? Sure, it’s brutal but it’s the truth. So, of course, the little girl coughs up a bunch of blood, which hits the heroic (aka stupid) college chick right in the face. As it turns out, consequences  are a bitch too.

Predictably, the petrified teen wipes her face and pretends like it never happened (stupid decision number four), and so starts the inevitable sequence of desertion and betrayal and death. Cue end credits.

Edward is so old news...

I loved it.

Yup. That's right I said it.

P.S. Dakota Fanning grew up?? Don't child actors live in never never land or something? They aren't supposed to look like adults more beautiful than me. It's just not right.

Keys. Sucks when you don't have them.

So I did it. Left the keys in the ignition for the first time tonight.

And NO the car was not still running.

Thank goodness I was with my friend who drives so it was easy to go get the spare. Needless to say I felt like an idiot but I was NOT that surprised. I knew it would happen eventually. I just has hoped I could have gone longer before it happened. Hopefully now I will be super paranoid and never do it again.
